Today in history: Lake Nyos Disaster: from August 21st, 1986 to August 21st, 2020

On August 21st, 1986,  Lake Nyos, in Fungom subdivision, Menchum division of the North West Region of Cameroon exploded.
It is reported that the disaster  killed 1,746 people and 3,500 livestock.

The Cameroon Government has been at the centre of action to assuage the plight of the Nyos people. Resettlement camps were set up in Ukpwa-Wum and Bafmeng respectively.
