Konye Gets Vocational School To Empower Kids Affected by Anglophone Crisis

The Konye Council in Meme division, South West region has created a Vocational Institute known as Community Industrialisation Foundation Institute of Vocational Training, CIFIVOT to train  children affected by the Anglophone crisis in different fields.

The school shall go into operation as from October 2020. The Institute, is a product of the Community Industrialization Foundation-Cameroon, a Philanthropic Career Orientation Welfare Foundation which is a non-profit community action agency in Konye Sub division.

The disclosure was made Saturday, September 5, in kumba by Dr. Barrister George Musima Lobe, the Board Chair of the Outfit. Musima also doubles as the Mayor of Konye Council.

The event that brought together sons and daughters of Konye Sub division was an opportunity to make known the mission of CIFIVOT.

It has as mission address poverty by  providing vocational training programmes and services that assist socio-economically disadvantaged persons in gaining skills and abilities necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.

Born out of the present crisis in the English-Speaking regions, with the consequent effect on the youthful population of the sub division, its long-term goals are : promoting decent work and economic growth; provide powerful human resource capital capable of sustaining economic growth; reduce poverty to a socially acceptable level and; eradicate illiteracy among vulnerable groups.

The training in the various disciplines is for a two year period beginning every October but the public has the discretion any time within the year for a short course in any of the vocational disciplines.

The disciplines include: House Management and Care; Pedicure/ Manicure (Beauty); Hotel Management and Catering; Poultry Farming; Building Construction; Plumbing ( Domestic and Drainage Cistern); Welding Engineering; Panel Beating; Carpentry and Joinery; Auto Mechanics; Motor Electricity; Tailoring and Embroidery; Bilingual Secretaryship; Office Automation ( Secretaryship); Computerized Accounting  and Management; Electronics; Computer Maintenance; Networking; Stores Accounting;Web Designing; Graphics Designing and ; Professional Driving (Auto-Ecole)

During the launch of its activities, it was disclosed that, the headquarters of the institute is in konye Town with campuses in different locations.  Its operation shall begin in Kumba this October.

An in-camera Board of Directors meeting on Friday September 4, and elected Mr. Mandi Lawrence Dikong as the pioneer Director of the institute which was announced during the enlarged meeting on Saturday September 5.

During the enlarged meeting, various Resource Persons presented discourse on the importance of Vocational training in the present dispensation.

The Divisional delegate of Employment and Vocational Training for Meme division, Eyabe Robert, took time to reiterate the necessity of Vocational training and revealed that, it  goes alongside certification.

The Traditional Ruler of konye Town, His Royal Majesty, Chief Mediko John Mediko III, who was guest of honour did not hide his gratitude to the vision bearer for such a lofty idea in putting in place of such an institution of training.

He said, the choice of the pioneer Director was apt as he is an Educationist par excellance who had served the State in different capacities the last being Inspector of Basic Education for konye Sub division.

 

CIFIVOT is an arm of the numerous outfits of the Community Industrialisation Foundation, Cameroon known in its acronym as CIFCAM. Its coming into play is expected to greatly mitigate the effects of the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West regions on the population of Konye sub division in the days ahead.
