Wum Mayor Donates For Effective Back-To-School

The Mayor  of  Wum Council, Menchum division  of the North West region, Dighambong Anthony Mvo  has  offered  didactic materials  to head teachers of the 37 Government Schools  to ensure  schools  effectively kick off  for the 2020/2021 academic year.

These didactic materials are part of the annual minimum package, given to councils by the government through the Ministry of Basic Education.

The consignment comprised books, school registers, chalks, pens, rulers and benches among many other items.

 The head teachers described the donation as being qualitative and quantitative.

The inspector of Basic Education for Wum Subdivision, Bua John Ndifor, thanked the mayor of Wum Council for the timely availability of the didactic materials. Bua said the consignment will enable teachers prepare well ahead of time before schools reopening.

Mayor’s Cup

The 2020 edition of Dighambong Anthony football tournament baptized as Dighambong Anthony Unity and Peace Tournament, ended on a positive note  with GBHS Wum Zone emerging as champions.

In football, Malabo FC won Immaculate White FC, 9-8  goals after post match penalties to grab the trophy.

Supporters and onlookers came from far and near to witness the groundbreaking finals. From the far off Ukpwa, to the rice plains of Bu, the ever busy semi urban Wum town, the mountainous and hilly Ndzedzam, Waindo itself, and special guests from Bafmeng, only to watch, appreciate and encourage young talents.GBHS Wum play ground was the center of attraction.

The football finals that generated fireworks, was a golden opportunity, for the Wum population to unite.  The Mayor of Wum Council, used the opportunity to call on all to return to classes come Monday October 5th 2020.

 He urged parents to help these children by taking them to school.

They were further called upon to  shun fear and prepare a brighter future “for our kids, by providing them an opportunity of learning”.

The Mayor reassured the population that next year’s edition of the tournament would witness an improvement. Prizes included cash, a football, jerseys to finalists and a giant football trophy.

It should be noted here that Dighambong Anthony football tournament in some zones in Wum municipality is a yearly event that concerns  youth from the 19 villages of the municipality.
