Nine warders serving at the Kumba Principal Prison in the South West region have been awarded epaulettes raising them to higher ranks.
The ceremony affixing these new epaulettes took place Thursday April 8, at the esplanade of the Prison. It was presided over by the Regional Delegate of Penitentiary Administration for the South West, Tiwa Jonas.
This was in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme division, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong and the Superintendent of the kumba Principal Prison, Nyenty Leonel Ebot.
The incremental positions ranged from Major Prison Chief Warder, Senior Prison Chief Warder , Major Prison Warder and Senior Prison Warder.
According to the Regional delegate of Penitentiary Administration, these award of epaulettes comes at a time when the penitentiary and other services face a lot of security and health challenges due to the socio-political upheavals plaguing the North West and South West regions .
Tiwa said, it is for this reason that the Minister of State, Ministers of justice and Keeper of the Seal, Lauren Esso, impressed by the modesty and diligence in executing their tasks that the concern were promoted as a sign of appreciation and encouragement.
He attested that, his presence at the event was aimed at giving them a push because no major incident has been recorded at the Kumba Principal Prison.
The ceremony ended up with a march past by the recipients in front of the dignitaries present.
